ORANGE, Calif., July 20, 2016. With all of the confusion surrounding implementation of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA), the American College of Certified Scribe Specialists (ACMSS) is on track for the original implementation date of Jan. 1, 2017, providing a range of services to help medical providers meet the requirements. ACMSS provides certification covering of a multitude of duties for clinicians through Certified Medical Scribe Specialists (CMSS), up to and including advanced features of Computerized Provider Order Entry personnel to meet Meaningful Use requirements and now is providing consulting services for medical practices who need help understanding how to comply with new regulations and avoid coming payment penalties.
“Surprisingly, a national survey released last week by Deloitte & Touche shows that half of all private practice physicians have never heard of MACRA, and less than a quarter of self-employed and small-group physicians are even somewhat familiar with these pending reimbursement changes, which are going to significantly impact most providers,” said ACMSS Executive Director Kristin Hagen. “Medical practices need to be ready, and CMSS can help with customized consulting, whether the practices are small, rural groups or large enterprises.”
ACMSS understands MACRA, and has been on the forefront of the revolution in our healthcare system toward value-based, individualized medical care and treatment, which is the focus of the proposed rule and its Merit-Based Payment Incentive System (MIPS). ACMSS now provides consulting services to help with all performance categories of MIPS, including Quality Reporting, Resource Use, Clinical Practice Improvement Activities (CPIA), and Advancing Care Information (ACI). These services are in addition to the growing suite of certification services for medical scribes offered by ACMSS. ACMSS has long-term high-level tenure and experience throughout our healthcare system, customizing and implementing veteran solutions, pioneering to wellness through Precision Medicine: Integrative Medicine, overcoming original 1st- and 2nd-generation airbag injuries since 1994, in a 19+-year paper records journey to overcome in wellness system.
The ACMSS certification program meets current and proposed CMS certification requirements toward use of electronic health records. ACMSS is independent from all scribe companies and organizations and works in compliance with CMS to meet national goals and initiatives of Meaningful Use, MACRA: MIPS/APM. Certified medical scribes also meet the “qualified people” Personnel Measure in Certified Electronic Health Record Technology (CEHRT). All personnel entering electronic data must be certified if not the licensed clinicians themselves entering data.
“The clinical documentation and practice efficiencies certified scribes provide have been shown to ease the clerical burdens of CPOE and EHRs, and give physicians back the time and attention they need focus on their patients toward integrative health care focused on wellness,” Hagen said. “The use of certified medical scribes allows providers to focus on their much-needed goals today in independent practices of working to assist patients in disease reversal and prevention toward wellness.”
The American College of Medical Scribe Specialists offers individualized and customized consulting for practices, scribe corporations, and across the healthcare enterprise offering five separate pathways for certifying Medical Scribe Specialists. All personnel certifying with ACMSS need to purchase a Standardized Volume Scribe Certification Package, preparing both the individual and the practice for real-time resource and assistance, ongoing and into the future. Bundles include: Annual Membership, MSCAT Training/Resource Manual, HIPAA for Scribes Training/Operational video/certificate, and Medical Scribe Certification & Aptitude Test (MSCAT) Certification. Upon successful pass, each certified scribe is given a certificate and eligible credential, in which Practice Administrators/Clinicians retain for Meaningful Use attestations and customize and innovate workflow for patient-centric care.
